2011 Riding Year In Review

Statistically, how my 2011 cycling year measured up:

Total distance: 8,487 miles – a personal record by 3,353 miles (next best year 2010 at 5,134 miles).

Total number of rides: 178 – a personal record by 55 rides (next best year 2010 at 123 rides).

Average distance per ride: 47.7 miles/ride – a personal record by 6.0 miles/ride (next best year 2010 at 41.7 miles/ride).   The histogram below shows much better detail.

Here are the totals by month:

2011 stats of course are dominated by the RA tour – a spring training ramp up, a big summer spike and then a considerable cooling off in the fall.  I thought I would never exceed my monthly total in July of 2010 (1,406) and then managed to do it three times in 2011 while on tour.

This, quite possibly, is the most prolific riding year I’ll ever have.   The RA tour has left me hungry for more extended touring, and yet I have my sights set on shorter trips at the moment.

2011 sure was a banner cycling year.  I continue to wonder how it is that my dream bike trip has finally come to pass, and I’ve “crossed it off my list.”
