2015 Riding Year in Review

My riding continues to taper off year-on-year. I supposed after so many miles in the saddle, one’s life interests start to turn to other things. The broken finger in July curtailed the riding for weeks, but eventually I got back in the saddle.  Jack, Phil, Dave and I got in that marvelous November tour of Southern Arizona, the highlight of the bicycling year.

2014 Riding Year in Review

A lot less riding this year than last, less than 2,000 miles total.  In past years, if I’d have been this close to 2000 miles I’d-a been out on my bike in the cold rain getting there.  Not anymore. Like last year, my average distance per ride is still about 35 miles, but I only rode 57 different days in 2014.  The highlight of the year, without question, is the September tour Jack and I did through the Deep South and up the Natchez Trace, and then through Tennessee, and Kentucky.  A truly great trip. I continue to do all

2013 Riding Year in Review

2013 was another good cycling year.  Despite almost not doing it, Jack and I really enjoyed our excursion down the Florida coastline to Key West. At 2,827 miles, 2013 was my 5th most prolific riding year – pretty ho-hum.   The average length of my rides continues to shorten.  A bunch of things contributing…age, fitness, energy, distractions, and those ongoing knee problems.  Ah well. A whopping 95% of 2013 miles were ridden on my Surly LHT, while only 5%  on my Trek 1800c. I took the Trek out in early January and couldn’t believe how harsh it felt.

2012 Riding Year In Review

Taking stock of another year in the saddle. 2012 was another good cycling year, owing almost completely to the stupendous UTCO tour Jack and I did.  Of course the ride across America was a really big deal in 2011, but in some ways, the tour across southern Utah and Colorado in July 2012 was even more enjoyable, the only downside being Jack’s early discomforts with altitude. At 3030 miles, 2012 was my 4th most prolific riding year, despite having August and September wiped out by travel and December wiped out by a family emergency.   It’s also the first year since

2010 Riding Year In Review

Jack recently dubbed me “Geek-1,” and I’ve got some stats to prove it.  Riding stats aren’t very important, but are fun and provide a yardstick, and I’ve been keeping them since 2004.  Here is, statistically, how my 2010 cycling year measured up: Total distance:  5,134 miles – a personal record by 1,311 miles (next best year 2008 at 3,823 miles). Total number of rides:  123 – a personal record by 11 rides (next best year 2008 at 112 rides).  This stat is not particularly meaningful when you consider that it includes short errands. Average distance per ride:  41.7 miles/ride –
